Bosome-Freho Again; Some Ministers Are Allegedly In Bed With The DCE In The Practice Of Illegal Mining

Like there are many uncelebrated Ghanaian geniuses, there are many constituencies and areas in Ghana embedded with so much potential but have received little or no attention over the past decade. It is not a debate that for Ghana to develop, there is the need for a fair and proportional distribution of funds, resources and attention to all communities in the country. Bosome-Freho is among one of the least supported constituencies in Ghana, and it is in the Ashanti Region where the ruling party derives its energy and strength from. As a constituent, my primary aim for this article is to draw the attention of the President of the Republic, His excellency , Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo on this matter.

I am very much aware of the duties and responsibilities of the Member lof Parliament,  as against the District Chief Executive (DCE). I am not jaundiced towards the Member of Parliament but at the same time not oblivion about the fact that  the DCE is the only representative of the president in the area with executive powers, the issue of whether there would be development in the area largely depends on the DCE. This has been the bane of Bosome-Freho, that it never gets lucky when it comes to getting a competent leader for the office.

Bosome-Freho has been hungry for many years for an educated DCE at least. It is an unfathomable reality that the constituency has not been relieved of it. The constituency has been deprived of intellectually-abled leadership that can captain the people of Bosome-Freho into economic freedom. The lack of planning, strategic positioning and visionary leadership have made Bosome the least of its peers such as Asante-Akyem and Bosomtwe. What is more, young people in the community as a consequence of this, have lacked proper role models to look up to. After all, anybody can be DCE.

In addition to this, agriculture in the constituency has been sidelined for illegal mining. This is becoming increasingly worrying as it appears the decry of the constituents has not been seen and heard. It is becoming glaringly obvious that some Ministers are in bed with the DCE in the practice of illegal mining. How would he not throw his support behind the DCE?

The people of Bosome-freho have expressed their disgust for the rapid destruction of their land as a result of galamsey but attempts to salvage the situation have been futile because "the big men" are involved.

Bosome-Freho, a constituency with such beautiful people, stunning landscape and major tourist sites must not be left at the mercy of selfish leaders. With right planning and genuine care for the people, the constituency can become one of the most iconic in the Ashanti region. We are therefore calling for swift action to be taken by the President of the Republic and the leadership of the New Patriotic Party as this situation can have negative significance on the party's popularity in the constituency.

NPP And NDC Playing "Chaskele"  With EC... Rev Dr Worlanyo Mensah Tensions between Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and New Patriotic Party (NPP) have escalated over alleged discrepancies in the 2024 voter register. Rev Dr Samuel Worlanyo Mensah, vice presidential candidate for the All People's Congress (APC), economist and a lecture at Wisconsin university Accra, has warned that the NDC and NPP's actions during the limited voter registration and special transfer of vote exercise have compromised the register's integrity. "The two major parties were bussing people from their homes to registration centers, encouraging minors and foreigners to register," Dr. Worlanyo alleged. The NDC recently raised concerns upon receiving the provisional voters register, citing bloated electoral rolls in certain polling stations and alleged attempts by the EC to rig the December 7 polls in favor of the governing NPP. In res...

NPP Government Shortchanges Cocoa Farmers: A Closer Look at the Discrepancies.... Twifo Atti-Morkwa NDC Communication Officer. In recent years, Ghana's cocoa farmers have faced significant disparities in the payments they receive for their hard work. A comparison of current cocoa pricing practices under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government with those from the era of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) highlights a troubling trend: farmers are being shortchanged, while the government profits disproportionately. As of today, the global market price for cocoa stands at $6,470 per ton. With an exchange rate of Ghc 16.35 to $1, this translates to Ghc 105,784.50 per ton in Ghanaian cedis. Given that one ton comprises 16 bags, this sets the price per bag at Ghc 6,611.00. However, the current government pays cocoa farmers only Ghc 3,000 per ton—just 45.39% of the total price—retaining the remaining 54.61%, or Ghc 3,609.52 per ton. In stark contrast, under the NDC government led by J...

AFTER YEARS OF MINING IN AKWATIA – GHANA’S NEW ARTIFICIAL LAKE, THE ASUBONE STORY AND OUR TOURISM DRIVE  ABSTRACT.... H. BRAKO Diamonds were first discovered in the Gold Coast Colony (Ghana) near the Birim River close to the town of Abomosu in 1919. The Birim diamond discoveries led mining companies to invest along that river. However, not until 1929 did organized diamond mining begin following additional diamond discoveries made by Ghanaian prospectors in the gravels of Bediebewu streams near Tarkwa. In 1924, the Consolidated African Selection Trust (CAST) was formed and became the major diamond mining company in Ghana. Over 2 million carats were mined by CAST from 1924 to 1939. CAST’s early success led to investment in other diamond exploration and mining ventures in West Africa particularly in Ghana – resulting in the establishment of Great Consolidated Diamond (GCD).  1n 1963 Lake Asubone was created artificially in Asubone near Akwatia in Denkyembour District of Gh...
