ADAKLU DISTRICT RECORDS 10 YEARS OF ZERO MATERNAL DEATH 20/02/23 VR:

The Adaklu District in the Volta region marked its 10th annual performance Review meeting with the theme "Achieving the universal health coverage in the midst of covid -19; the role of stakeholders’’. The District Director Mr Mathew Ayamba on his welcome address acknowledged his predecessors for the marvelous work done since the creation of the district.

According to him, the district recorded zero maternal deaths in the last 10 years amidst a myriad of challenges. He further disclosed that, Ante Natal Care (ANC) coverage saw a marginal increased from 66.7% in 2021 to 68%in 2022 with MR2 coverage increasing from 67.7% in 2021 to 72.7% in 2022. According to him, although the ANC coverage saw a marginal increased, the skilled delivery declined from 36.2% to 35.2 % during the year under review.

He lamented that, the family planning services in the district are free since the service is on the NHIS but the acceptor rate drastically reduced from 29.1% in 2021 to 25.1% in 2022. However, he added that, the OPD per capita reduced from 1.1% in 2021 to 1.0 in 2022.Though the NHIS service is accepted in almost all the health facilities in the district, noninsured still accounts for over 20% of the OPD attendance in the district, a worrying trend in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The Review meeting also had in attendance District Health Directors from the Agotime Ziope and Hohoe Districts, dignitaries from GOSANET Foundation, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and some media men from Adanu Fm and Hilz Fm The Adaklu District Assembly and the MP, Hon Agbodza have contributed immensely to health infrastructure development in the district. The Assembly is currently constructing a CHPS Compound at Kpetsu. The District Director of Health Services pleaded with the Assembly to speed up work on the facility.

He also solicited support from other stakeholders in completing stalled works with the expansion of Ahunda and Waya Health Centres.

The chairman for the occasion Mr Charles Azagba the Hohoe District Health Director was confident the district will maintain the zero maternal death and urged the staff to continue their work to improve health services in the district.   NPP And NDC Playing "Chaskele"  With EC... Rev Dr Worlanyo Mensah Tensions between Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and New Patriotic Party (NPP) have escalated over alleged discrepancies in the 2024 voter register. Rev Dr Samuel Worlanyo Mensah, vice presidential candidate for the All People's Congress (APC), economist and a lecture at Wisconsin university Accra, has warned that the NDC and NPP's actions during the limited voter registration and special transfer of vote exercise have compromised the register's integrity. "The two major parties were bussing people from their homes to registration centers, encouraging minors and foreigners to register," Dr. Worlanyo alleged. The NDC recently raised concerns upon receiving the provisional voters register, citing bloated electoral rolls in certain polling stations and alleged attempts by the EC to rig the December 7 polls in favor of the governing NPP. In res...

NPP Government Shortchanges Cocoa Farmers: A Closer Look at the Discrepancies.... Twifo Atti-Morkwa NDC Communication Officer. In recent years, Ghana's cocoa farmers have faced significant disparities in the payments they receive for their hard work. A comparison of current cocoa pricing practices under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government with those from the era of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) highlights a troubling trend: farmers are being shortchanged, while the government profits disproportionately. As of today, the global market price for cocoa stands at $6,470 per ton. With an exchange rate of Ghc 16.35 to $1, this translates to Ghc 105,784.50 per ton in Ghanaian cedis. Given that one ton comprises 16 bags, this sets the price per bag at Ghc 6,611.00. However, the current government pays cocoa farmers only Ghc 3,000 per ton—just 45.39% of the total price—retaining the remaining 54.61%, or Ghc 3,609.52 per ton. In stark contrast, under the NDC government led by J...

AFTER YEARS OF MINING IN AKWATIA – GHANA’S NEW ARTIFICIAL LAKE, THE ASUBONE STORY AND OUR TOURISM DRIVE  ABSTRACT.... H. BRAKO Diamonds were first discovered in the Gold Coast Colony (Ghana) near the Birim River close to the town of Abomosu in 1919. The Birim diamond discoveries led mining companies to invest along that river. However, not until 1929 did organized diamond mining begin following additional diamond discoveries made by Ghanaian prospectors in the gravels of Bediebewu streams near Tarkwa. In 1924, the Consolidated African Selection Trust (CAST) was formed and became the major diamond mining company in Ghana. Over 2 million carats were mined by CAST from 1924 to 1939. CAST’s early success led to investment in other diamond exploration and mining ventures in West Africa particularly in Ghana – resulting in the establishment of Great Consolidated Diamond (GCD).  1n 1963 Lake Asubone was created artificially in Asubone near Akwatia in Denkyembour District of Gh...
