ADAKLU DISTRICT RECORDS 10 YEARS OF ZERO MATERNAL DEATH 20/02/23 VR:

The Adaklu District in the Volta region marked its 10th annual performance Review meeting with the theme "Achieving the universal health coverage in the midst of covid -19; the role of stakeholders’’. The District Director Mr Mathew Ayamba on his welcome address acknowledged his predecessors for the marvelous work done since the creation of the district.

According to him, the district recorded zero maternal deaths in the last 10 years amidst a myriad of challenges. He further disclosed that, Ante Natal Care (ANC) coverage saw a marginal increased from 66.7% in 2021 to 68%in 2022 with MR2 coverage increasing from 67.7% in 2021 to 72.7% in 2022. According to him, although the ANC coverage saw a marginal increased, the skilled delivery declined from 36.2% to 35.2 % during the year under review.

He lamented that, the family planning services in the district are free since the service is on the NHIS but the acceptor rate drastically reduced from 29.1% in 2021 to 25.1% in 2022. However, he added that, the OPD per capita reduced from 1.1% in 2021 to 1.0 in 2022.Though the NHIS service is accepted in almost all the health facilities in the district, noninsured still accounts for over 20% of the OPD attendance in the district, a worrying trend in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The Review meeting also had in attendance District Health Directors from the Agotime Ziope and Hohoe Districts, dignitaries from GOSANET Foundation, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and some media men from Adanu Fm and Hilz Fm The Adaklu District Assembly and the MP, Hon Agbodza have contributed immensely to health infrastructure development in the district. The Assembly is currently constructing a CHPS Compound at Kpetsu. The District Director of Health Services pleaded with the Assembly to speed up work on the facility.

He also solicited support from other stakeholders in completing stalled works with the expansion of Ahunda and Waya Health Centres.

The chairman for the occasion Mr Charles Azagba the Hohoe District Health Director was confident the district will maintain the zero maternal death and urged the staff to continue their work to improve health services in the district. BRAKO Diamonds were first discovered in the Gold Coast Colony (Ghana) near the Birim River close to the town of Abomosu in 1919. The Birim diamond discoveries led mining companies to invest along that river. However, not until 1929 did organized diamond mining begin following additional diamond discoveries made by Ghanaian prospectors in the gravels of Bediebewu streams near Tarkwa. In 1924, the Consolidated African Selection Trust (CAST) was formed and became the major diamond mining company in Ghana. Over 2 million carats were mined by CAST from 1924 to 1939.
