Elect Competent Candidates In The Upcoming District Assembly Elections – Nana Korankye Apomuden

An Aspiring Assembly Member for Assin Akropong Electoral Area, Nana Korankye Apomuden has implored Ghanaians to elect competent assembly members and unit committee members in the upcoming district assembly elections.

According to the vociferous journalist, electing competent Assemblymembers who have no record of moral turpitude to lead the affairs of electoral areas is one sure way of bringing development to the local communities.

Speaking to the media, he urged Ghanaians to take an active part in the activities of the assemblies to ensure the smooth operation of leaders.

According to him, the enthusiasm in district assembly elections continues to fade out, he believes elected members could restore hope in the people when they deliver their mandate efficiently and effectively.

He noted that the district assemblies were the pivot around which development evolves, this, the assemblies are responsible for providing social infrastructure such as schools, and hospitals, and also ensuring the provision of potable drinking water as well as addressing sanitation issues.

Nana Korankye Apomuden urged the  Assembly and Unit Committee members to consider the interest of their electoral areas at all times with which their mandate could be renewed.

"Elected Assembly and Unit Committee members are key partners in the decentralization process as they represent their areas in the assemblies."

"It is the responsibility of the assembly members to lobby for projects and seek funding to undertake activities that benefit their community." He noted.

BRAKO Diamonds were first discovered in the Gold Coast Colony (Ghana) near the Birim River close to the town of Abomosu in 1919. The Birim diamond discoveries led mining companies to invest along that river. However, not until 1929 did organized diamond mining begin following additional diamond discoveries made by Ghanaian prospectors in the gravels of Bediebewu streams near Tarkwa. In 1924, the Consolidated African Selection Trust (CAST) was formed and became the major diamond mining company in Ghana. Over 2 million carats were mined by CAST from 1924 to 1939.
