JOBerg Foundation Hands Over Keys Of House To Winner Of ‘Taking The Homeless Home Award’
Just after few weeks of winning the 2022 maiden “Taking The Homeless Home Awards,” Mrs. Helen Kalayi has been handed the keys to a one-bedroom semi-furnished house as promised by JOBerg Foundation, the organisers of the awards.
In addition to the house, she was given an undisclosed amount of money to invest it in her business.
Mrs. Kalayi beat off competition from four other candidates shortlisted for the prestigious award.
The presentation came off on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at the premise of the house located at Katamanso in Accra, and it was all tears of joy for Mrs. Kalayi, a mother of four.
Although short, the ceremony was graced by the Board Chairman of JOBerg Foundation, Ambassador Tenkorang, and a member, Ambassador Dr. Mokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi.
Also in attendance were the family members of Mrs. Kalayi and the other four candidates, who were Mrs. Elizabeth Asamoah, Hajia Adiza, Alhaji Mammud and Alhaji Fuseini.
Each of the four contestants was given an undisclosed seed money to aid in their respective businesses.
Addressing the gathering, a Board Member of the Foundation, Dr. Mokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi, said the awards scheme is targeted at supporting the “hardworking poor and vulnerable people” across the country.
“The organisers’ goal is to improve the lot of poor and vulnerable Ghanaians who are hardworking and desiring to break away from the cycle of poverty,” she underscored.
According to her, the scheme is a collaboration between JOBerg Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and Mypagegh.com, an online news portal. The awards, she added, would be replicated across the country.
On the entry criteria for the awards, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said a competent team was put together by the Foundation who went to scout for vulnerable and hardworking people who fit the category of the award.
“After identifying 5 of such persons across the Greater Accra Region, the team interviewed them on their plights and how they were making ends meet.
The interviews, she noted, were recorded and played on TV to allow for public voting.
“After three (3) weeks of showing the interviews of the five contestants, Mrs. Helen Kalayi emerged as the ultimate winner.
She will be taking home a one-bedroom furnished house free of charge from JOBerg Foundation,” she indicated.
In a brief remark, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JOBerg Foundation, Mr. Joseph Magnus Marteye, disclosed that the awards will be done every year, and assured that his organisation will give out 5 of such building facilities every year on occasions including Christmas/New Year, Independence Day, Easter Season, Eid al-Fitr, and Founder’s Day to the poor and hardworking Ghanaian.
He revealed that it cost his foundation 70,000 Ghana Cedis to put up the facility which construction spanned over a period of 7 months, adding that the awards would be replicated across country.
He used the opportunity to call on corporate organisations and philanthropists to come on board and put smiles on the faces of the poor and vulnerable citizens in this country.
Mr. Marteye expressed gratitude to God for making the day possible and also thanked staff members of JOBerg Foundation for completing the house on schedule.
“This awards will contribute in helping the poor in our country and also bridge the housing deficit in the country,” he noted.
In an interview with the media, an overwhelmed Mrs. Kalayi whose eyes were filled with tears of joy thanked God for the honour done her.
“I also want to ask for God’s blessings for the Foundation, and I pray that God Almighty will make the Founder and his organisation grow in leaps and bounds,” she said.
Furthermore, she thanked all Ghanaians who voted for her to emerge the ultimate winner of the awards.
Later in the evening a dinner reception was hosted in honour of Mrs. Kalayi which event was used to raise funds to support the project.
According to the organisers, the next dinner would be organised in Europe which would be followed by one in Asia and the American continent.
