NPP 2024 Elections Defeat: Assin Central Presented A Weak Parliamentary Candidate ...Constituents Reveals.

The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) staggering defeat in the 2024 general election has prompted a nationwide introspection, as the party seeks to understand the underlying causes of its loss. One of the most shocking losses was the Assin Central seat, which had been a stronghold for the NPP since 2000 under the leadership of Kennedy Agyapong.

In a surprising turn of events, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) managed to wrestle the seat away from the NPP, leaving many to wonder what factors contributed to this unexpected outcome. To gain a deeper understanding of the reasons behind this defeat, independent media personalities engaged with residents in the area, gathering their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

The majority of those interviewed attributed the loss to the  unappealing posture of the 2024 NPP candidate for Assin Central, Godfred Nti Anewu, who struggled to connect with voters and lacked the charisma to win them over compared to the NDC candidate Nurein Shaibu Migyimah.

This, they said, weakened confidence in his leadership contributed to the party’s electoral decline.

In contrast, NDC's Nurein Shaibu Migyimah secured a historic win with 16,343 votes (50.6%). Residents felt that Anewu's inability to resonate with the electorate ultimately cost the NPP the seat. Compare this to the NDCs Nurein Shaibu Migyimah.

Many felt that he failed to connect with the electorate and did not possess the charisma needed to win over voters.

Interestingly, many of the residents interviewed believed that Eric Kwadwo Baidoo, one of the four candidates who contested the parliamentary primaries, would have been a stronger contender for the Assin Central seat. They felt that he possessed the qualities necessary to appeal to a broader segment of the electorate and potentially secure a victory for the NPP.
