Asene Manso Akroso District Assembly Gets Presiding Member After Three Failed Attempts

The Asene Manso Akroso District Assembly in the Eastern Region has successfully elected a Presiding Member after three failed attempts.
The previous contests saw between the incumbent, Hon. Enoch Ofori Aiden, securing 11 votes, and Hon. Andrew Dough obtaining 21. 
Per Section 27 of the Local Governance Act (Act 936), the Presiding Member must be elected by at least two-thirds of Assembly members. Meanwhile the Asene Manso Akroso District consist of 34 members including government appointees, a candidate requires a minimum of 23 votes to be elected. 
 
Issac Arthur secured 27 “Yes” votes out of the 30 members present.
Fresh candidates were nominated in the person of Hon. Alhassan Abdul and Hon. Issac Arthur, Following a series of engagements, Hon. Alhassan Abdul stepped down to allow his contender, Hon. Issac Arthur to go unopposed, citing the interest of the Assembly.

In his victory speech, the elected presiding member, Mr. Issac Arthur stated that, it was time the assembly members considered the development of their electoral areas a top priority.
He said, his duty would be to unite the Assembly Members to work towards meeting the developmental needs of their residents.

The incumbent presiding member who double as the chairman (Deen) of Eastern Regional presiding Members and National secretary of presiding Members Hon. Enoch Ofori Aiden outpour his ordeal on how some alleged NDC party supporters forcedly took the office keys during the third attempt which was held last week Friday 28th august 2026.
