We Feel Sorry For Living In Rural Areas... Assin Residents Shed Tears Over Bad Road

Residents of/in over 15 communities in the Assin North District/Constituency of the central region are crying bitterly to the responsible authorities over the deplorable road linking Assin Akonfode and their communities (Assin Gold Coast camp, Assin Ayitey-krom, Assin Kɔdadwen, Assin Awurabo,  Assin Dweneakyi, Assin Obiri Kwaku, Assin Akropong Odumasi etc.

Speaking to the media when an NGO called "Network For Assin Development" went there to donate learning and teaching materials to the pupils in some selected schools in the above mentioned communities, the motor riders (Okadas) explained that, sometimes they feel very sorry for residing in rural areas, because anytime its rains, the road become flooded to the extent that, they have to offload their goods and the passengers on their motorbikes to cross the water for different riders before they can continue their journey. Access to Health care center is also a very big challenge for them especially the pregnant women and Old ages.

Moreover, the means of transporting their food stuffs to the market i.e Assin Fosu becomes very difficult and dangerous for their lives especially in raining season like this. Some said they see car in the community once a week.

Charles Ohene Ando, Assin North Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Abena Durowa-Mensah and the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to as a matter of urgency come to their aid by constructing or at least making the rounds motorable for them.

The group, "Network For Assin Development" who aimed to donate to the pupils in the community also shared their experiences to the media when they couldn't drive their cars to the communities and have No option than to carry the items on their heads to the communities because of the flood on the road.

BRAKO Diamonds were first discovered in the Gold Coast Colony (Ghana) near the Birim River close to the town of Abomosu in 1919. The Birim diamond discoveries led mining companies to invest along that river. However, not until 1929 did organized diamond mining begin following additional diamond discoveries made by Ghanaian prospectors in the gravels of Bediebewu streams near Tarkwa. In 1924, the Consolidated African Selection Trust (CAST) was formed and became the major diamond mining company in Ghana. Over 2 million carats were mined by CAST from 1924 to 1939.
